The Project
Responsive Website
The NZ Masters games runs alternatively out of Wanganui and Dunedin. They have a huge following and an increasing use of their website (typical usage is around 1000,000 sessions 50,000 users per annum). Due to this – they needed a website that was easy to navigate and use – but more importantly – very easy for NZMG staff to update on the fly. Their existing site was not capable of handling this and other marketing agencies were putting forward “too complex solutions”. After in depth needs analysis – we proposed a solution and the design team again “nailed it”.
The site had some unique design challenges. It had to be new, fresh, and modern but be content heavy and easily editable by staff of the games. We started with a full-width design so we could introduce more visual elements that would be used throughout the site (headers etc.), which enable us to enter the content in a logical manner focused on the end user. We used icons on the sports pages as a way of easily relaying to staff which sections needed to be edited and had the added bonus of making the vast information more easily understandable to the end user. The site always set out to be a balancing act of not compromising design, while still being easy to edit and easy to consume. With a 1% bounce rate and a high volume traffic, we think we have succeeded.
Right from the planning stages it has been a breeze to work with Paul, Mike and the rest of the Nettl Dunedin team, they listened to our ideas and took the time to understand what we required in a website. The added challenge of alternating between two events was overcome easily, and we couldn’t be happier with the outcome. We have a new fresh site that thanks to great guidance from the team our users both internal and external find it very easy to navigate and use.
